A 1920s apartment in the Pyrenees is brought back to life with a new layout, rustic details and modern comforts.

Tucked into a historic building in the Pyrenees, this 125 sq/m apartment had been closed up and unused since the 1990s. The layout was dated, the systems obsolete, and the spaces divided and dark. We reimagined it completely, moving the kitchen to the front, opening the walls to create a bright central living area and restoring the original character hidden beneath decades of disuse. The result is a home that feels both rooted and renewed, full of light, warmth and vintage character.

The guiding principle was to let the old and the new coexist naturally. Instead of replacing what was there, we uncovered it, removing drop ceilings to reveal the beautiful bóveda catalana, and repairing the original tile floors until they shone again. Each surface was treated with care to retain the building’s soul while making it fully liveable for today.

The kitchen was relocated from the back to the front of the apartment, opening onto the balconies and transforming the flow of the entire home. The former small bathroom was expanded into a generous, comfortable space, and a powder room was added for convenience. The reconfigured plan reduced the apartment from four bedrooms to three, yet it now sleeps eight comfortably with better use of natural light and space for gathering family and friends.

Every system (electrical, plumbing and heating) was fully replaced, turning an unused shell into a warm, efficient year-round home. The renovation brought together craftsmanship, practicality, and atmosphere, a modern refuge with the charm of its past still intact.

All construction and restoration work was carried out in collaboration with Reformas Andres, whose craftsmanship and attention to detail were essential to the project. Together, we rebuilt the apartment from the inside out.
